FAIRVIEW is an abandoned GOLD MINING town in the south OKANAGAN VALLEY west of OLIVER. It began in 1890 with the discovery of the Stemwinder mine. As several more mines opened they provided business for a growing number of hotels and saloons. The population grew to 500 before the gold suddenly gave out in 1906. The mines closed, and by the 1920s the site was deserted.
