FARWELL CANYON, on the CHILCOTIN R 20 km south of RISKE CREEK, is a spectacular badlands area of hoodoos, sand dunes and sagebrush. A bridge crosses the canyon where FIRST NATIONS people have been netting SALMON for as long as memory records. There are pictographs on the rock walls. The canyon is named for Gordon Farwell, a Chilcotin pioneer, who established the Pothole Ranch in 1912. See also FISHING, ABORIGINAL; ROCK ART.
