Fording Inc

FORDING INC was created in Dec 1969 to develop COAL properties in the ELK R valley in southeast BC. As a subsidiary of CPR, the company began shipping coal in 1972. Its initial market was the Japanese steel industry; later it began selling to other countries as well. The largest coal exporter in Canada, Fording operated 3 open-pit mines in BC—Coal Mountain, Fording River and Fording Greenhills.
