Fraser, Alexander Vaughn "Alex"

FRASER, Alexander Vaughn "Alex," politician (b 22 June 1916, Quesnel; d 1989, Victoria). A partner in a CARIBOO trucking company, he was mayor of QUESNEL for 20 years before winning election to the legislature as a SOCIAL CREDIT PARTY member from the Cariboo in 1969. He held the seat for the next 20 years until his death. Re-elected 5 times, he was known widely as "the King of the Cariboo." He joined Bill BENNETT's CABINET in 1975 as minister of highways and kept the portfolio until 1987....
