FRASER, George, horticulturalist (b 25 Oct 1854, Lossiemouth, Scotland; d 1944, Port Alberni). Already an experienced gardener when he immigrated to Canada in 1883, he arrived in VICTORIA 5 years later and became foreman in charge of BEACON HILL PARK. RHODODENDRONS he planted there in 1889 are still flourishing. In 1894 he moved to UCLUELET, where he established a plant nursery and became an internationally known hybridizer of rhododendrons.
