GRAND HAVEN, 4 km west of FORT ST JOHN, was a pioneer farming settlement (see AGRICULTURE) in the PEACE R district, site of an early school and outpost hospital in the 1920s. The area became increasingly residential through the 1990s and served as a base for a number of OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY-related businesses. It was named after Grand Haven, N Dakota, home of Thor Thorsen, a storekeeper.
