GRAY CREEK, pop 125, is a community on the east side of KOOTENAY LK, 65 km north of CRESTON. It was the site of considerable orchard development during 1908–13 (see TREE FRUITS) and it served as the eastern terminus of the Kootenay Lk ferry from 1931 to 1947. The wreck of the CITY OF AINSWORTH, a sternwheeler that foundered in 1898, was located offshore in 1990 and later became a provincial heritage site.
