Harbledown Island

HARBLEDOWN ISLAND, 36 sq km, is one of a jumble of islands near the northern entrance to JOHNSTONE STRAIT east of ALERT BAY between VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland. Heavily forested and mostly uninhabited, it was the site of one or more KWAKWAKA'WAKW villages. A small LOGGING and FISHING settlement existed on the north shore from the early 1900s to the 1920s.
