HEPPNER, Ben, singer (b 14 Jan 1956, Murrayville). Youngest of 9 children in a MENNONITE farm family in the PEACE R district, he gained recognition as a promising heldentenor ("heroic tenor") in 1979 when he won first prize at the CBC Talent Festival. His first professional role was as Roderigo in the 1981 VANCOUVER OPERA production of Verdi's Otello.
