HERBOMEZ, Louis-Joseph d', Catholic missionary (b 17 Jan 1822, Brillon, France; d 3 June 1890, New Westminster). A member of the OBLATES OF MARY IMMACULATE, he was ordained a priest in 1849 and the following year came out to the missions in the Oregon Territory. In 1858 the Oblates moved their headquarters to ESQUIMALT, where they enjoyed better relations with government officials.
