HERNANDO ISLAND, in GEORGIA STRAIT 30 km northwest of POWELL RIVER, is flat and wooded, with many beautiful beaches. It was originally settled in the 1880s and had a population of 40, mostly farmers, in 1892. RAILWAY LOGGING by the Campbell River Lumber Co took place in the 1910s.
