Powell River


POWELL RIVER, city, pop 12,957 (2006), is located on the mainland coast 130 km north of VANCOUVER. (The population of the surrounding REGIONAL DISTRICT is 19,765.) It is named for Israel Wood POWELL, who was superintendent of Indian Affairs when he visited the area aboard the Royal Navy vessel HMS Rocket.
