HONG, Wong Mon "Bill," miner, merchant (b 28 Aug 1901, Van Winkle; d 20 Apr 1985, Quesnel). Raised in the N CARIBOO, he was steeped in MINING lore and made his living from mining and operating grocery and general stores at STANLEY, BARKERVILLE and WELLS. A sociable, generous man, he saved many from destitution by extending "credit," much of it never repaid. He was a keen collector of memorabilia and made significant contributions of historical artifacts to museums at QUESNEL and Barkerville....
