HONGKONG BANK OF CANADA is a subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc of London, England. In Canada its operations are based in VANCOUVER. The bank received its charter in 1981 and after purchasing the assets of the BANK OF BC in 1986, it began to develop a national presence, both commercial and retail. In 1999 it changed its name to HSBC Bank Canada. By 2005 it had 127 branches across the country and assets worth $47.4 billion.
