HORSEFLY, pop 238, is located near the west end of Horsefly Lk (59 sq km), 50 km east of WILLIAMS LAKE and the Cariboo Hwy (see ROADS AND HWYS). It is the site of the first gold discovery in the CARIBOO in 1859 (see GOLD RUSH) and originally was named Harper's Camp after Thaddeus Harper, one of the brothers who founded the GANG RANCH.
