HOWSER, 80 km northeast of NELSON on the west side of Duncan Lk in the W KOOTENAY, was supposed to be the terminus of a GREAT NORTHERN RWY push into the LARDEAU mining district. The line was not completed and the short-lived boomtown, originally called Duncan City after a prospector named Jack Duncan, soon lost steam.
