ICE CLIMBING is the sport of climbing frozen WATERFALLS using specialized tools, including ice axes, crampons and ice screws. It has evolved dramatically since the mid-1960s due to advances in equipment design and climbers' technical ability, among them the Terrodactyl ice hammer, a downward-angled ice pick, and rigid crampons, which enable climbers to ascend steeper ice.
