IRVING, William, steamboat captain (b 3 Mar 1816, Annan, Scotland; d 28 Aug 1872, New Westminster). He went to sea as a young boy and was a veteran of steamboating in New Brunswick and Oregon when he arrived in VICTORIA in 1859. There he established a navigation company operating a fleet of PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS on the FRASER R and HARRISON LK.
