JONES, Con, sports entrepreneur (b 18 Aug 1869, Australia; d 3 June 1929, Vancouver). The ex-bookie came to VANCOUVER from his native Australia in 1903 and became one of the city's most flamboyant sports and business personalities. He opened a chain of tobacco stores/pool halls named "Don't Argue!" and one of them boasted Vancouver's first neon sign: "Don't Argue Con Jones Sells Fresh Tobacco."
