KASLO, village, pop 1,049 (2021), lies on the west side of KOOTENAY LK, 71 km northeast of NELSON. First settled in 1888–89 by SAWMILL operators, it boomed following the discovery of SILVER–lead–ZINC ore in the SLOCAN area in 1891. It may have been named after John Kasleau, a prospector.
