KLEMTU, pop 460, is a FISHING village on Swindle Island in the heart of the INSIDE PASSAGE, halfway between PORT HARDY and PRINCE RUPERT. It was founded in the 1870s by TSIMSHIAN and HAIHAIS families to take advantage of the growing number of steamers passing through Finlayson Channel needing wood and supplies.
