KUSKONOOK is a recreational and farming (see AGRICULTURE) settlement near the south end of KOOTENAY LK, 25 km northwest of CRESTON. Originally known as Armstrong's Landing, it became the terminus during 1900–13 for the Bedlington & Nelson Rwy, a GREAT NORTHERN RWY subsidiary from Idaho. Kootenay Rwy & Navigation Co steamboats, including the fast and elegant Kaslo, ran from here to NELSON and KASLO. The name is a KTUNAXA word meaning "end of the lake."
