LADNER, William Henry, farmer, politician (b 28 Nov 1826, Cornwall, England; d 1 Nov 1907, Ladner). He immigrated to the US in 1848 to join his father in Wisconsin. His father died in 1851; he and his younger brother Thomas LADNER then travelled by wagon train to California, where they prospected for gold in the Grass Valley for several years. They moved north to the FRASER R goldfields (see GOLD RUSHES) in 1858. By the following year, having failed to find gold, they began freighting supplies...
