LARGE, Richard Whitefield, medical missionary (b Feb 1873, Orangeville, ON; d 20 Aug 1920, Prince Rupert). After working for a year as a schoolteacher in Ontario he attended medical school in Toronto, then came west to BC in 1898 to work at a hospital in STEVESTON. At the end of the year he transferred to BELLA BELLA and shortly afterwards was ordained a minister in the METHODIST CHURCH. He was the first long-term missionary at Bella Bella and the first permanent doctor on the central coast....
