LONGSPUR is a SPARROW-like bird found in open GRASSLANDS and tundras. Two species are found regularly in BC. The Lapland longspur (Calcarius lapponicus) breeds on Arctic tundras around the world and migrates through BC; Smith's longspur (C. pictus) breeds in shrubby tundras across northern N America, including the northwest corner of BC.
