LOOTAS ("Wave Eater") is a 15-m dugout CANOE designed and built under the supervision of HAIDA carver Bill REID for EXPO 86. It was made at SKIDEGATE on the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS from a single red CEDAR tree, the first large dugout canoe carved there in 70 years. In Oct 1989 it was taken to Europe and paddled up the Seine R to Paris, where it was the centrepiece of an exhibition of Reid's work at the Musée de l'Homme.
