MAILLARDVILLE () is a FRANCOPHONE settlement northeast of NEW WESTMINSTER, created in 1909 when Fraser River Saw Mills imported 150 workers from Quebec to replace Asian employees at its MILLSIDE operations. More French-speaking workers followed, and a community developed around the parish of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church (1910). It is named for Rev Edmond Maillard, first priest at the church.
