Manson Creek

MANSON CREEK, 230 km northwest of PRINCE GEORGE, was a focal point of the OMINECA GOLD RUSH in the early 1870s, when more than 1,000 miners rushed to the region. The settlement lingered as a tiny centre for local prospectors; over the years it was the site of an HBC trading post, a motel, a museum, a restaurant and a gas station, but later it was abandoned. It was named for the HBC's Donald Manson, who ruled the NEW CALEDONIA district from FORT ST JAMES from 1844 to 1857.
