GOLD RUSH, OMINECA, occurred from 1870 to 1872 on the tributaries of the Omineca R in the mountainous North-Central Interior west of WILLISTON RESERVOIR. Having heard exaggerated accounts of a GOLD discovery the previous year on Vital Crk east of TAKLA LK, prospectors began pouring into the area early in 1870.
