MAQUINNA, Mowachaht chief (b circa 1760, Nootka Sound; d date unknown, Nootka Sound). He was the principal chief in NOOTKA SOUND on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND during a period of intense activity in the earliest days of the maritime FUR TRADE and Spanish settlement in the 1780s and 1790s.
