Merritt, Charles Cecil Ingersoll


MERRITT, Charles Cecil Ingersoll, soldier, lawyer (b 10 Nov 1908, Vancouver; d 12 July 2000, Vancouver). He is one of 5 BC-born recipients of the VICTORIA CROSS for military valour. A lawyer, he joined the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders at the beginning of WWII. In 1942 he transferred to the South Saskatchewan Regiment, which he commanded during the ill-fated Dieppe raid on 19 Aug 1942.
