Munday, Phyllis (James) and Don

MUNDAY, Phyllis (James), mountaineer (b 24 Sept 1894, Ceylon; d 11 Apr 1990, Nanaimo). After arriving in VANCOUVER in 1901, she climbed her first mountain, GROUSE, when she was just 10 years old. As a member of the BC MOUNTAINEERING CLUB, she met and married Don Munday, a journalist and mountaineer (b 16 Mar 1890, Portage la Prairie, MB; d 12 June 1950, Vancouver). Together they scaled many of the province's highest peaks, some for the first time; more than anyone else they were responsible...
