MYRTLE POINT overlooks Malaspina Strait just south of POWELL RIVER, about 115 km northwest of VANCOUVER. Nils Frolander operated a 19th-century store and post office here named Froek. BLOEDEL, STEWART & WELCH had a large RAILWAY LOGGING show here from 1911 until the mid-1920s and went on to become one of BC's largest forest companies (see also FOREST INDUSTRY). Today the area is mostly residential (pop 544); it is also the site of a golf course and regional park.
