NASHTON, between KOOTENAY and SLOCAN lakes 5 km west of KASLO, became prominent in the 1890s as a service centre for the nearby Mexico, Montezuma and Cork mines. A station on the KASLO & SLOCAN RWY, it was renamed Zwicky after the manager of the Cork mine when the CPR took over the line and rebuilt it in 1912. The post office continued under the name Nashton; when it closed in 1940 only 34 residents remained. A few dilapidated log buildings still mark the site.
