NEEL, Ellen, Kwakwaka'wakw artist (b 1916; d 1966). She was the granddaughter of Charlie JAMES, who taught her to carve in CEDAR. In VANCOUVER in the 1940s she made a living making miniature TOTEM POLES and in 1946 opened Totem Arts Studios, where she sold her work.
