Nemiah Valley

NEMIAH VALLEY is in the southern CHILCOTIN about 100 km south of HANCEVILLE on Hwy 20 west of WILLIAMS LAKE. The valley is occupied by ranches (see CATTLE INDUSTRY), TOURIST resorts and several RESERVES of the Xeni Gwet'in (Nemiah) people, part of the TSILHQOT'IN First Nation. Konni (Xeni) Lk drains via Nemaia Crk into CHILKO LK. In 1989 the Xeni Gwet'in issued the Nemiah Declaration banning all resource-related development in the valley; in 1991 they won a court injunction to stop LOGGING....
