NEW HAZELTON, district municipality, pop 750 (2001), developed on the BULKLEY R 6 km east of HAZELTON during the construction of the GRAND TRUNK PACIFIC RWY in 1912. It was promoted by Robert KELLY, a VANCOUVER merchant who owned the townsite, as an alternative location for the new train station because it was on the same side of the river as the tracks, which Hazelton was not.
