NEWTON, Jack Borden, astronomer (b 13 Aug 1942, Winnipeg). One of the world's best-known amateur astronomers, he was self-taught and supported his lifelong hobby by working as a department store manager. He has written and co-written many books about astronomy and is one of the pioneers of astronomical imaging using computers. He came to BC in 1979 and lived in VICTORIA until his retirement from business in 1996. He works full-time on astronomy with his wife Alice in OSOYOOS and a winter home...
