North Bend


NORTH BEND, in the FRASER R canyon 43 km north of YALE, was the CPR's divisional point between VANCOUVER and KAMLOOPS. It was originally known as Yankee Flats. A resort hotel, Fraser Canyon House, was built here in 1886 and replaced in 1935 with a new hotel that lasted until the late 1970s. North Bend was the site of a unique aerial ferry from 1940 to 1986. Two steel cables strung across the river to BOSTON BAR carried a large basket capable of holding a single motor vehicle or 40 passengers....
