O'KEEFE HISTORIC RANCH, 12 km north of VERNON in the north OKANAGAN VALLEY, was founded in 1867 by Cornelius O'KEEFE, who was driving cattle north to the goldfields with his partners, Thomas Greenhow and Thomas Wood. The men each pre-empted 66 ha of meadowland to use for ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY). O'Keefe developed his holdings into one of the largest ranches in the district, diversifying into grain and apple growing and raising pigs and sheep. Much of this land was subsequently sold off...
