Paldi


PALDI was a SAWMILL community 10 km west of DUNCAN on the way to COWICHAN LK. It was founded in 1917 by a syndicate led by Mayo SINGH and Kapoor Singh and was originally called Mayo. In 1936 the name changed to Paldi after Mayo Singh's home village in India. Community life centred on the SIKH temple, one of the first opened in BC in 1919, though there were also numerous JAPANESE Canadian millhands and their families.
