PAVILION, 35 km north of LILLOOET, began as a ranch owned by an American prospector, Robert Carson, who came to BC in 1858 seeking GOLD but homesteaded on the high meadows above the FRASER R instead. It is a stop on the BC RAIL line. The local SECWEPEMC (Shuswap) people know it as Ts'kw'aylaxw, "frosty ground."
