Pioneer

PIONEER was a company town associated with the Pioneer GOLD mine on Cadwallader Crk, a tributary of the BRIDGE R, about 160 km north of VANCOUVER in the COAST MTS. The first claim was staked in 1897 and after a number of false starts became a successful operation under David Sloan, a MINING engineer who took charge in 1924. The Pioneer mine, which merged with the adjoining BRALORNE mine in 1959 and closed in 1961, yielded 36.5 tonnes of gold. The townsite was abandoned in the 1970s.
