PRINCESS MAQUINNA, a 71-m supply vessel owned by the CPR, was a familiar sight on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND from 1913 to 1952. A combination passenger and freight vessel, it was built to handle the heavy seas of the outer coast. Twice a month it travelled between VICTORIA and PORT ALICE, stopping at fish plants, LOGGING camps and villages along the way. When airplanes took over the freight and passenger business, the famous vessel was converted to an ore carrier, then scrapped in 1962.
