Puntzi Lake


PUNTZI LAKE is a small community in the central CHILCOTIN about 65 km west of ALEXIS CREEK. The name derives from a DAKELH (Carrier) word meaning "small lake." William Manning homesteaded here during the GOLD RUSH era and ran a stopping place. He was murdered during the so-called CHILCOTIN WAR and it was in this area that the TSILHQOT'IN (Chilcotin) warriors, who took part in the "war," surrendered to authorities.
