Quilchena

QUILCHENA, overlooking Nicola Lk 23 km east of MERRITT, is the headquarters of the Quilchena Cattle Co, founded by Joseph GUICHON and operated by members of his family for many years. In addition to the ranch (see CATTLE INDUSTRY), one of the largest in the district, the ranch operates the Quilchena Hotel, built in 1908, and store, established in 1912.
