REIMER, Eugene "Gene," wheelchair athlete (b 21 Jan 1940, Swift Current, SK). He had polio at age 4 and was left a paraplegic. A longtime resident of ABBOTSFORD, he became one of Canada's first wheelchair athletes in the late 1960s, participating in weightlifting, archery, SWIMMING, BASKETBALL, volleyball and all TRACK AND FIELD events. During the 1970s he competed internationally and by his retirement in 1980 he had amassed 9 international and 50 national gold medals. His best year was 1972...
