ROLLA, pop 125, 16 km north of DAWSON CREEK, was the commercial centre of the PEACE R district in the 1920s, with banks, hotels and a NEWSPAPER. Grain growing and the CATTLE INDUSTRY were important and a large AGRICULTURAL fair was held annually. The community was first settled by L.H. Miller in 1912 and named after his hometown in Missouri. It lost importance after BC RAIL arrived at Dawson Creek in 1958, with many businesses moving to the larger centre.
