Saturna Island


SATURNA ISLAND, 31 sq km, is one of the GULF ISLANDS between southern VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland, south of MAYNE ISLAND and east of the PENDER ISLANDS. It is named for the Spanish explorer José Maria NARVÁEZ's ship Saturnina. Settlement began in the 1870s and the permanent population now numbers 319 (2001).
