SCOBIE, Stephen, poet, teacher (b 31 Dec 1943, Carnoustie, Scotland). He immigrated to Canada in 1965 and completed a PhD in English at UBC 4 years later. After teaching for 12 years at the Univ of Alberta, he moved to the UNIV OF VICTORIA; he has taught there ever since and has been an active presence in the Canadian literary scene. His first books of poetry appeared in the 1970s. He has published more than a dozen in all and one of them, McAlmon's Chinese Opera, won a GOV GEN'S LITERARY AWARD...
